You know your'e close to Chistochina when you see this spectacular mountain rising in the sky. At 16,237 feet, Mt. Sanford is one of the largest mountains in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park. Located between mile 31 and 37 on the Tok cutoff Highway, Chistochina is a midway point between the Canadian border and Anchorage; or midway between Tok and Glennallen.

The Ahtna name for Mt. Sanford is Kelt'aeni. The lands around Kelt'aeni are abundant with outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, river rafting, biking, mountaineering, and wildlife viewing.
